Toyota Prius
On sale later this year, the Toyota Prius will be, say Toyota, the first practical petrol-electric car to go on sale. It can run on either its highly efficient 1.5 litre petrol engine, its electric motor or a combination of both. The ratio of power provided by each system is constantly monitored electronically, depending on speed and load, to keep the car in its most efficient operating mode. The Prius also boasts all the safety and comfort features you would expect from a modern family car, such as anti-lock brakes, driver and passenger airbags, electric windows and optional satellite navigation.
