MCC smart

By now rapidly becoming a familiar site on the roads though still a real head-turner, this is the ubiquitous smart City Coupé, built by Micro Concept Car smart GmbH, a DaimlerChrysler company.

The smart City Coupe is available in three distinctive trim levels: the enrty level smart & pure, smart & pulse and the top of the range smart & passion.

The smart & pure has a three cylinder, 600cc engine developing 44bhp. The more powerful smart & pulse has a three cylinder 600cc engine developing 54 bhp. The smart & passion has the same engine as the smart & pulse but features air conditioning and alloy whells as part of the standard package.

A limited edition smart, called the smart edition silver is now available over the internet via the smart website. Only 30 models are available featuring exclusive equipment such as river silver metallic paint, sportline design light-alloy wheels, indiglo blue leather trim and bicolour rear lamps.

All smart models come with a radio, rev counter and clock as standard.

The smart's compact and lightweight SUPREX turbo engine is electronically limited to a top speed of 85 mph and is mated to an automatic sequential six-speed gearbox with SOFTIP shifting, with no need for a clutch when changing gears. Simply pushing the gearstick forward will change up a gear, and moving it backwards will drop a gear. Even greater ease of driving is offered with the SOFTOUCH automatic transmission which enables the driver to switch from manual to automatic shift mode at the flick of a swithc on the gearshift knob.

All the smart models feature a host of safety features as standard. In addition to the TRUST PLUS stability control system, all smarts feature ABS, electronic brake power distribution (EBV), full size driver and passenger airbags, seatbelt tensioners and belt force limiters.

Another exciting feature of the smart is interchangable body panels. Feeling tired of your smart's colour scheme? Simply drive over to your nearest smart centre where the service experts will exchange your smart's body panels for those of another colour in no time at all. There are eight stunning colours to choose from, including aqua green and aqua vanilla. These are produced using a special coating process known as cubic printing which was specially developed for this application. The special pigment coating between the body panel and the paintwork produces a marbled finish which is unique to each car.
