Ford IndyGo
The IndyGo is so named to allude to Ford's long history of IndyCar racing. Unlike many so-called "concept" vehicles or showcars, this car was designed from the outset to be feasibly manufactured at some point. This was a thoroughbly driveable car even though most motor industry insiders would freely admit that this car was too radical to go on sale.
Ford's quote on the IndyGo stated that the vehicle "captures the essence of the race track and transforms it into a realistic design for the street." Certainly the vehicle takes its visual clues from race cars, particularly Formula 1, with a narrow nose complete with F1-style spoiler, and the materials used in it's construction (carbonfibre, aluminium and glassfibre) also mimick racecar technology.
The IndyGo was powered by a 6.0 litre V12 unit - formed by mating together two V6 units - producing an impressive 435 bhp. This was sufficient to give the vehicle a top speed of 170 mph and a 0-60 time of 3.9 seconds.
Further alluding to the race track, the IndyGo also featured a six-speed sequential gearbox in which gear changes would be made by pressing buttons on the steering wheel, and a Formula 1 inspired dashboard.
