Audi TT Coupe

Audi TT Coupe

pOriginally a concept vehicle first displayed at the 1995 Frankfurt Motorshow and now a reality: the Audi TT.

To stay true to the initial design study the designers restricted themselves to a minimum of essential technical alterations. The Audi TT has a choice of two 1.8 litre 4-cylinder inline engines with five-valve technology and turbocharger optimised for high elasticity and impressive high torque. The top of the range engine with 225 bhp and two intercoolers enables the Audi TT CoupÚ quattro to reach a top speed of 243 km/h. The maximum torque of 280 Nm across a broad speed range between 2200 and 5500 rpm, is likewise impressive.

The permanent four wheel drive allows the sports car to sprint from 0 to 100 Km/h in 6.4 seconds. Its 6-speed gearbox with short gear shift points transfers the power via the electronically-controlled hydraulic clutch for the front and rear axles. This oil-lubricated controlled multi-plate clutch with its own oil circulation and electronic control system lies at the heart of the all-wheel drive in the Audi TT. The Audi TT CoupÚ quattro with 180 bhp and a torque figure of 235 Nm between 1950 and 4700 rpm hits 100 km/h after 7.4 seconds and has a top speed of more than 225 km/h.

The sophisticated sports suspension on the Audi TT CoupÚ quattro - McPherson strut suspension at front, and side parallelogram suspension at rear - was developed and tuned to meet the special demands of sport car driving and safety. The design of the four large brake discs with ABS and the electronic brake force distribution EBD have been conceived with sporting performance in mind. The permanent all-wheel drive versions also have rear ventilated braked discs. THE 205/55 R16 or 225/45 ZR 17 tyres supplied with exclusive cast aluminium wheels (7J x 16 or 7.5J x 17 inch) amply fill the wheel housing and provide the necessary road adhesion.

In accordance with Audi standards the coupe comes with exemplary safety equipment. This includes two front head/thorax airbags in the seat backs which protect the upper body and head region, as well as pyrotechnic front seat belt restraints. The car fulfils not only the 96/27/EC side impact crash requirements, but also the European frontal crash requirements due to come into force. A tubular steel construction which acts as an additional cross bracing of the door post in the region of the seat cross member gives the body shell structure particular rigidity.

The puristic lines of the 4.04 metre long, 1.86 wide and 1.35 metre low 2+2 seater sports car correspond with the specifically functional, but by no means spartan, TT interior. Here too the character of the basic concept is retained. Stylish details, such as the elegantly and functionally designed cockpit, generously crafted aluminium and the Alcantara/leather equipment as standard harmonise with the clarity of the exterior. The Audi TT CoupÚ has a very user-friendly luggage compartment. A clever folding mechanism in the rear seat bench enables the rear back rest to be half split or completely folded down: the latter doubles the available luggage volume without restricting the function of the adjustable front seats.

The Audi TT CoupÚ is available in the UK only as a quattro model with both engine variants.
