Relaunch 2016

Relaunch 2016

Creator Clifford White outlines the goals of the new 21stcentury.co.uk website, and his plans for the 2016 relaunch.

2016 sees the relaunch of 21stcentury.co.uk to be bigger, better and brighter than ever before. This time, rather than to focus on the near impossible task of reporting on an entire planets technological progress, the new 21stcentury.co.uk is going to focus solely on the UK industry, so often overlooked by the mainstream media. We are talking to doctors, professors and scientists, technology gurus, designers and developers who live and/or work in the UK industry, and are focusing our efforts to publicise the innovative work and scientific advances being made in the UK.

Here is our new introduction and mission statement:

Our Mission

Welcome to the 21st century…

Did you know that the television was invented by a Brit – John Logie Baird – back in 1923? Ok, what about the telephone, patented by Scotsman Alexander Graham Bell back in 1876? No? How about the fact that computers wouldn’t exist at all if it wasn’t for Charles Babbage’s Difference Engine (1822) or Alan Turing’s speculations on the Universal Machine, both vital inventions that paved the way for modern computing. These are just a handful of some of the many world-changing inventions that British innovators have brought into existence since the Industrial Revolution began (1760 – 1840(ish) – history lesson over).

Yet surfing the World Wide Web (invented by Londoner Tim Berners-Lee in 1989 – sorry to belabour the point) , you might be forgiven for thinking that the Americans have invented all of the good stuff. In a world awash with iPods, iPads and iPhones it would seem that British innovation has finally faded into obscurity. And with Microsoft currently providing the only set of Windows into the future (excuse the pun) you might feel that British invention is finally dead and buried – a once great nation of inventors turned consumers in the great tide of progress.

Well, to be perfectly honest, we are pretty tired with hearing how wonderful Apple and Microsoft are. Even the British tabloids and UK-centric news and technology websites (not mentioning any names) seem solely obsessed with promoting the latest Apple and Microsoft news. What about all of the innovative British companies out there that are getting no press? Why can’t we hear from them? Where on the Internet can one go to read all about these exciting British genii?

Enter 21stcentury.co.uk – a website dedicated to exploring the future of UK innovation.

Over the coming months we will be opening up a Pandora’s Box of UK innovation, reporting to you on the very best British companies and thought leaders, speakers and evangelists. From cutting-edge music, video and media related entertainment technologies, to breakthrough science, engineering and medical advances, no stone will be left unturned in our persuit of the hottest UK technology news and casting our spotlight on Britian’s most advanced thinkers, strategists and inventors.

Welcome to 21stcentury.co.uk. The future will never be the same again.

If you would like to join the party and contribute something, then send us an email and tell us all about it.
